Frequently Asked Questions

About Our Flights

  • How are you reducing my air travel emissions?

When you book with us, we allocate your portion of SAF to the airport fuel system, ensuring it replaces fossil fuel in aviation. 1 liter of SAF purchased by us avoids 1 liter of fossil jet fuel being burned. While we can't guarantee that SAF will be used on your specific flight, your contribution directly increases SAF adoption, reducing overall CO₂ emissions. You can find out more here: impact
  • Which airlines do you work with?

We collaborate with leading airlines that are actively investing in SAF and other sustainable aviation initiatives. Our partners include major global carriers as well as smaller regional airlines that share our commitment to reducing aviation's carbon footprint. Your SAF certificate will explicitly detail to which airline the SAF has been delivered, and thus replace a quantity of fossil fuel that the aviation industry will not consume.
  • What is Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)?

SAF is a renewable alternative to conventional jet fuel, made from sustainable sources like waste oils, agricultural residues, and even captured CO₂. It can currently already reduce lifecycle emissions by up to 80% compared to fossil jet fuel while maintaining the same or better performance. You can find out more here: impact
  • How do you verify the environmental impact of each flight?

We use verified carbon accounting methods to calculate the emissions of each flight, based on factors like fuel type, aircraft efficiency, and route distance. When SAF is used, we ensure that its impact is verified through recognized industry standards like ISCC, IATA, the Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials (RSB) and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) framework. You will find the exact details of the SAF purchase and environmental impact reduction on your SAF certificate on the 3rd party registry.
  • How are your prices calculated?

Our prices reflect the cost of the flight, along with any contributions towards SAF usage and a booking fee used to help BookBetter spread the word and fight climate effects of the aviation industry.
  • Are flights that use SAF more expensive?

Yes, SAF currently costs more than conventional jet fuel. However, traditional jet fuel is artificially cheap because its price does not account for the hidden environmental and social costs, such as climate change, air pollution, and health impacts. If these external costs were factored in, fossil jet fuel would be significantly more expensive. As SAF production scales up and new technologies emerge, its cost is expected to decrease. Increased investment and government incentives will help make SAF more widely available and affordable, accelerating the transition to more sustainable air travel.
  • How do I know if my flight has SAF in it?

When you book with us, flights that incorporate Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) are clearly labeled, showing the percentage of SAF used and the estimated carbon reduction. You'll also receive a certificate verifying your contribution to sustainable aviation. However, while your purchase supports SAF adoption, we cannot guarantee that the SAF will be used on your specific flight. Instead, the SAF we procure is added to the airport's fuel system and blended with conventional jet fuel before being distributed to aircraft. This process, known as the book-and-claim system, ensures that SAF is being used in aviation—even if it powers a different flight. The important takeaway is that your purchase directly contributes to lowering aviation emissions by requiring less fossil fuel for aviation, regardless of where the SAF is used.
  • How and when is my SAF purchased confirmed?

Once your SAF contribution is processed, after you flew, you'll receive a verified certificate detailing the amount of SAF purchased, its source, and the carbon savings achieved. This ensures full transparency and accountability for your less polluting travel choices. You can validate its validity on the 3rd party public registry.
  • What is the future outlook for SAF?

The future of SAF is promising, with increasing investments, government incentives, and technological advancements driving its adoption.
